What a difference a day makes…

Saturday, May 1st, 2010

What a Difference a Day Made: Dinah Washington Songs can sum up so much about one’s life. The song that really resonates for me at present is “What a Difference a Day Makes” by Ms. Dinah Washington & the divine, handsome, talented Mr. Tony Bennett. Lately, I find myself singing verses from this song when impromptu/unexpected occurences happen dans ma vie. It happened to me today, for instance. I have to admit, my singing is barely inaudible but happens nonetheless and usually just includes the first few lines: ”What a difference a day made, twenty-four little hours”…Anyway, despite not being privy to many of the lyrics, this kooky little song has gotten under my skin. So, I decided to settle matters and present the lyrics here - for all the world to see. Loud n’ proud I say! What a difference a day makes! To hear Dinah sing it, click here.  (more…)

Grey is the New Black

Sass and Bide Chaplin Tee

I have just discovered grey and it is my new black. I always thought that grey would drain the skin: i.e make the wearer look wan, sunken-eyed, depleted…you get the drift..But, alas! Grey does not do these things. Instead it’s easy to wear (like black) but it’s softer, somewhat moodier and it has more depth than black, that is just so….well, black.  Grey is great to layer (i.e with white and/or other greyish tones); it’s also good with a splash of colour (I favour coral); and wonderful with silver jewellery.  I thought this Sass and Bide t-shirt was cute. It’s available for sale via their website.

Today I dedicated to ranting and raving about all things green & sustainable in my March Newsletter 2010 – The Eco Issue. If you wish to read it, be my guest. It contains some interesting little tit-bits on eco-couture, designer icebergs and the like. I think I’ve had my rave for the day, so there’s really not much more to add. It’s all there in black & white: check it out! And see you next month for my monthly rave on…mmm…let me think…I’ll get back to you on that one! Ciao for now!

New Launch Pad for Miss Moss Fashion

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

I LOVE my new office. It has carpet! It has shelving! It is surrounded by trees (and okay, a fair bit of concrete – but who’s counting?)! It’s located in Milton NSW, which is currently one of my fave places to be. So peaceful, yet with a buzz that is all it’s own. I absolutely can’t wait to get into this new year and my new office is the perfect launch pad for all things creative and inspired. I have many plans afoot, one of which is to exhibit the MISS MOSS label at LifeInstyle, Melbourne in August 2010. (more…)

Dreaming of Dior

Dreaming of Dior

Isn’t life funny? Get this: my husband purchased the same gift for Christmas that I also purchased for my mother! Of all the thousands, well millions, really, of possible choices available out there, we were both taken in by the cover and then the contents of Dreaming of Dior, a new book published by Harper Collins. This gorgeously tactile publication, that encites such bizarre behaviour as clutching and caressing, traces the fashion adventures of author Charlotte Smith who had the good fortune of inheriting 5000 pieces of vintage clothing from her godmother, Doris Darnell. Each piece in this extraordinary collection, which dates from 1790 to 1995, has had a life of its own — this is where Charlotte steps in. She recounts whimsical and fascinating adventures which take the reader to cocktail parties in Monte Carlo, art galleries in Paris, weddings in Italy and the like. However, the book would not be complete without the stunning, exotic and unique illustrations by Grant Cowan. The cover is a real winner complete with touchy-feely felt and scrumptious black and hot pink a-la-miss-moss! I love it!

Miss Moss @ Tutties Boutique: Terrigal

Miss Moss Belted Kaftan in Turquoise and Choc Tribal Print

Miss Moss Belted Kaftan in Turquoise and Choc Tribal Print

It was a whirlwind meeting, but Jackie Donkin, the owner of Tutties Boutique in Terrigal, almost cleaned this label out of printed summer clothing. And it has been selling for her like hot cakes! Jackie loved the Belted Kaftan in Turquoise and Choc Tribal (pictured); and even purchased one for herself. This particular style, looks great with heaps of modern accessories – necklaces, chunky bracelets and the like; and is a fab throw on after the beach. It also looks good and feels great without a belt, for those days when you are just happy to mooch about and let the world pass you by.

Artist Robert Bradford: Trash or Treasure?

Sunday, December 13th, 2009

These funky pups are the work of artist Robert Bradford, who creates life-sized, as well as over-sized sculptures from other peoples refuse. If you think it looks like Bradford has no idea what he’s doing, think again. He abandoned a career in psychotherapy to sell these little beauties for around US$19,000 a pop. I might just check out what’s in the recycling bin.

Dior By Dior: The Autobiography of Christian Dior

Dior By Dior: The Autobiography of Christian Dior

I’ve just ordered myself a Chrissy prezzie that I couldn’t resist! It’s something I’ve been hankering after for a while. It’s a book, titled:
Dior by Dior: The Autobiography of Christian Dior, published by Victoria & Albert Museum Publications. I can’t wait to get my teeth into the world of golden age haute couture and find out about the man behind all that splendour, theatre and creativity! I do have one question though. Why is the dust jacket so bleedin’ boring? This man needs colour, sequins, fireworks – at the very least. Tsk. Tsk. I will keep you posted.
